Short-Term Success Stories: Mr. Randy

Mr. Randy, a short-term resident success story

Mr. Randy was admitted to Shady Lawn from another SNF in May of 2022 due to history of cerebrovascular accident and a hip fracture. He was dependent for transfers and required a mechanical lift to get out of bed into his wheelchair. He also likes to be in his wheelchair daily and move about the facility, so he participated in therapy on multiple occasions for contracture management and ADL’s. Mr. Randy was evaluated by OT on 05.16.23 for potential change in transfer status due to improvement in activity tolerance and alertness. He verbalized that he would like to be discharged from the lift. After two weeks of therapy and focus on transfers, he was changed to a stand-pivot transfer. We are happy to report that he has improved his functional activity tolerance from five minutes to 25 minutes and was also able to improve his independence. Additionally, he is happily transferring to his wheelchair with no lift. Way to go, Randy, and keep up the good work!
