Short-Term Therapy Success

Older adult woman working with physical therapist in the gym

Trudy admitted to Shady Lawn following hospitalization for multiple comorbidities with resultant debility, increased weakness, and low endurance. Trudy’s goals were to get therapy for 1-2 weeks to get stronger and improve her activity tolerance and then to return home with her spouse. Trudy received extensive rehabilitation services including core and extremity strengthening exercise, neuromuscular facilitation, posture training, balance training, gait, energy conservation, and activities of daily living. Trudy was walking ten feet on admission with partial assistance and multiple rest breaks, standing unsupported for activities of daily living for 3-5 minutes, and required partial assistance for dressing and hygiene. After working hard in therapy, Trudy. was walking two hundred feet independently with rolling walker, improved her standing balance to ten minutes, and participating in activities of daily living independently. Trudy was able to discharge home two weeks before receiving occupational and physical therapy.
