Short-Term Therapy Success: Linda E

Linda E. was admitted to Shady Lawn for short term rehab following hospitalization due to a stroke. After her hospitalization, Linda was debilitated, required supplemental Peg tube feedings with altered diet consistency, thickened liquids, expressive aphasia and required extensive assistance with ADL’s. Linda participated in rehabilitation services which included occupational, physical, and speech therapy 5 days a week. Her therapy included core and all extremity strengthening exercise, neuromuscular facilitation, posture training, balance training, ambulation, speech/ language, dysphagia, and activities of daily living. Upon admission, Linda was unable to walk and required extensive assistance with transfers, bed mobility and dressing. At discharge, Linda was walking with a supervision up to 250 ft with rolling walker and transferring to her w/c independently. Linda no longer required thickened liquids or supplemental nutrition, and Peg tube was discharged. Linda made consistent progress with her therapy and was able to be discharged home with her spouse. Linda was motivated to return home and a pleasure to work with.
