Short-Term Therapy Success: Ms. S

Ms. S. was admitted to Shady Lawn for long term care following hospitalization due to a stroke. Ms. S. became debilitated, unable to walk, and required extensive assistance with ADLs. She participated in rehabilitation services which included occupational, physical, and speech therapy 5 days a week. Her therapy included core and all extremity strengthening exercise, neuromuscular facilitation, posture training, balance training, dysphagia therapy, and activities of daily living. Upon admission, Ms. S. did not walk and required maximum assistance of two staff with transfers, bed mobility, and dressing. At discharge from therapy, Ms. S. was transferring to her wheelchair with minimal assistance. She was able to help with her dressing, toileting, and bathing with assistance. She made consistent progress with her therapy and is up daily in her wheelchair. She now enjoys activities and talking with her new friends!
