Short-Term Therapy Success: Regina D.

Regina D. was admitted to Shady Lawn following hospitalization with resultant increased weakness and altered mental status. After her hospitalization, Ms. D. was debilitated and needed extensive rehabilitation services including PT, OT, and ST services with focus on core and extremity strengthening, neuromuscular facilitation, posture training, balance training, ambulation, activities of daily living, and cognitive training. Prior to her hospitalization she was independent with activities of daily living, ambulated with no assisted device, driving, and responsible for home management tasks. Ms. D. was walking ten feet on admission with rolling walker with moderate assistance, standing unsupported for activities of daily living for 1-3 minutes, and required maximum assistance for cooking and cleaning task due to loss of balance. After working hard in therapy, Ms. D. was walking 250 plus feet independently with a rollator, improved her standing balance to 25 minutes, participating in mock scenarios of home management task and standing independently with no loss of balance. She improved her cognition and participated in higher level vocational tasks. Regina was able to be discharged home after receiving occupational, physical and speech therapy Regina was motivated to return home and worked hard in her therapy
