Short-Term Therapy Success Stories

Shady Lawn Nursing and Rehab Resident, Charlie, Pictured.

Charlie H. admitted to Shady Lawn following a prolonged hospitalization due to a severe ATV accident. After his hospitalization, Charlie was debilitated and unable to safely return home. Charlie was unable to bear weight in both his legs and in his right arm. Charlie was unable to walk and transferred via mechanical lift on admission and was dependent on bathing/ dressing, transfers, and toileting. He received rehabilitation services which included occupational and physical therapy 5 days a week. After a couple of weeks, Charlie was able to discharge from the mechanical lift and was using a sliding board for transfers. His therapies included core and all extremity strengthening exercise, neuromuscular facilitation, posture training, balance training, gait, and ADL’s. Once Charlie was able to bear weight in his legs, he was able to work on walking. At discharge from the facility, he was walking three hundred feet independently with a rolling walker. Charlie was also doing activities of daily living, bathing, hygiene task, and transferring independently. Charlie discharged after meeting all his goals. Charlie was a pleasure to work with, and his hard work and motivation paid off.
